The Connectorship Project

The Connectorship Project was an enquiry into the tools, processes and experiences that enhance and develop more connected systems of change.

What's possible because we are connected?  Biologist Merlin Sheldrake calls the relationship between organisms ‘the most basic principle of ecology’.  The Connectorship Project takes this as a starting point - that cultivating and nurturing relationships between the parts of our change-making systems is as important as the parts themselves.

Working across the social impact sector for the last twenty years, I’ve become increasingly interested in the connectivity of our efforts - and the role of relationships in making change. As we grapple with the hyper-connected challenges of our hyper-connected world, how might paying more attention to the ‘invisible in-between’ better equip us for the journey ahead?

The connectorship project seeks:

  • to further thinking and language around the concept of connectorship

  • to develop processes and gather evidence illustrating the value of connectorship in making the world a better place

  • to tangibly grow connectedness and connectivity amongst those committed to a better future - in Aotearoa NZ and beyond.

In 2020-21, when times were quiet for those of us who work to bring people together in person, I undertook a personal enquiry I called The Connectorship Project. Through reading and reflecting, I sought to deepen my understanding of some of they ‘why’ and ‘how’ of connection making. I recorded my reflections in the pieces below:

On What Lies Between: Exploring connectedness, connectivity and connectorship - November 2020
The Connectorship Project: The Enquiry Takes Shape - February 2021
Wayfinding Connectorship - April 2021
Elevating Connectorship to Create Change - EHF Blog, December 2020
